Henry and Cynthia Gibson Holstein Descendants

Henry Holstein was born circa 1758 in Virginia.  He married Cynthia Gibson born circa 1765.  The following children were born to them while living Louisiana:

1.  Stephen Randall Holstein was born circa 1794 and Married Nancy Mullin.  Stephen Randall Holstein and Nancy Mullin Holstein both died after 1870 and before 1880.  They had the following children: 
  • Peter Josiah/Jonah was born in 1834 and died in Texas on April 7, 1900, per Civil War Pension records.  He was married to Laura J. Hawthorne.  Both are buried in State Line Cemetery, Texarkana, Arkansas.  (Editor's Note:  tombstone photograph is courtesy of Annie202 at FindAGrave.com)





  • Marina was born on March 11, 1836 and died on March 13, 1853.  She is buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.


  • King Gibson Holstein was born in Catahoula Parish on June 30, 1838.  On February 15, 1871, he married Kate Ashford Doniphan  Kate was born in Natchez, Mississippi on November 19, 1846.  Her parents were Thomas Alexander Slaughter (T.A.S.) Doniphan) and Sarah Trammel Cartwright Doniphan.
After fighting in the Civil War, King returned to Sicily Island and bought 640 acres of land.  On the 640 acres there was a house built by two Methodist ministers, the Rev. White Brothers.  The house, known as White Hall, was built for a Girls' Seminary and was large and rambling house with cross halls and dormer windows.  The kitchen, store room and smokehouse joined the main building on the back.  The upstairs was not complete.  This property was located on the Harrisonburg highway and is now the site of the Casey and Sharon Weeks home. White Hall burned in 1928.  A small five room tenant house was built in its place and it burned in 1952. 

King Gibson and Kate Doniphan Holstein had the following ten children:
Slaughter C, 1871-1900 - Slaughter graduated from Vanderbilt in May of 1900 and practiced medicine in Harrisonburg until his death the following November. 

Mary Ann, 1873-1972 - In 1896, Mary Ann married Dr. Charles Prichard who practices medicine in Harrisonburg.  After Dr. Prichard died, Mary Ann moved to Natchez with their four younger children.  Later she moved back to Harrisonburg.

King Gibson, Jr., 1875-1906 - King Gibson, Jr. managed the home place on Sicily Island until his death in 1906.

Leila Waters, 1876-1949

Stephen Randall, 1878-1953 - Stephen Randall graduated from Tulane Law School and moved to Harrisonburg.  In 1915, he was elected Judge of the Eighth Judicial District where he served until 1924.  He and his wife, Bessie Bennett had two children, Sallie and Stephen, Jr.  Sometime after 1924, the family moved to Winnsboro.

  • Sarah/Sallie J. was born circa 1842 and married Thomas Jefferson Watlington.  They moved to Bowie County, Texas.

3.  King Gibson Holstein was born circa 1795 and married Celeste E. Hooter in 1823.  Celeste (1793-1864) was the daughter of Michael Hooter and Nancy Lovelace. King Gibson Holstein died after 1880 and before 1890.  Celeste Hooter Holstein died after 1860 and before 1870.

King and Celeste Holstein had the following children:
  • King Houston, 1824-1896 (m. Nancy Sojourner)

  • James Burrell, 1836-1923 (m. Laura Evans)  The following children were born to James and Laura Holstein: 
Mattie Celeta, 1862-1927 (m. Thomas Phillip Duncan)
M Adella, 1863-1954 (m. Elijah Knight)
King Phillip "Phil", 1866-1919 (m. Alice Guss)
James Henry, 1868-? (m. Theodora "Dora" A. Hopkins)
4.  Henry H. Holstein was born circa 1799 and married Mary K ? circa 1827.  Henry H. Holstein died after 1880 and before 1890.  Mary K. Holstein died after 1850 and before 1860.  They had the following two sons:
  • Robert E., 1828-? (m. Mary E. Hopkins) Robert and Mary had the following children:

Alberta "Allie", 1869-1950 (m. Franklin Burl Scott)
Charles J., 1872-1936

5.  Robert Edwin was born circa 1800

6.  Louisa Holstein was born in 1802 and married Richard Ludwick Lovelace in 1818.  Louisa Holstein Lovelace and Richard Ludwick Lovelace both died in 1826.  Louisa and Richard had the following children:
  • Lavinia Ann, 1815-1835

  • John Henry, 1821-1891 (m. 1. Julia Patience Kirkland; 2. Lucy O. Allen)  All three are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

7.  David Gibson Holstein was born circa 1806 and married Camilla Lightner, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Lovelace Lightner.  Camilla was born circa 1802.  David Gibson Holstein died prior to August 1842.  Camilla remarried to John Buie (1815-1871) on August 26, 1842.  She died circa 1860.

David and Camilla had the following children:

S. E., 1832-? (m. Edward L. Hodkins)

Levinia A., 1835-1910 (m. William Lego Ditto, Jr., 1826-1909).  Levinia died in Florida circa 1910.

Julia Isabella, 1839-?
