When the Veterinarian Visited the Island

Monroe Morning World - 1/14/1951

Who remembers the yearly trips Dr. Blunschi made to the Island to vaccinate our dogs?  From the above article it appears that 1951 was the first year this was done.

During the 1960s, Dr. Blunschi would park behind the Sicily Island State Bank and the local people would bring their dogs to be vaccinated.  Was the set up always near the bank?  Does anyone know when the yearly visits ended?

  1. I know we took all the dogs up there to the bank for years to get their shots. I don't remember when it stopped. That was always a big event. I loved Dr. Blunschi , he and his wife came to do the shots.( K.P.)

    1. Yes, it was a big event. I loved going up there to see all the different dogs. Dr. Blunschi's wife sat in the truck and wrote out receipts and gave out tags as best as I can remember.

    1. Yes, I do remember Bell! Someone had dropped Bell and Susie at one of the gravel pits. I guess my father found them and brought them home to us. I don't remember what happened to Susie but Bell lived quite a long time. Do you remember "skinny dog" with the ears that stood straight out to the side? I think you and my brother would tell Wayne T. (preacher's son) that he looked like "skinny dog" and he'd go into a rage. Weird, the things we remember.
