George Selden and Nancy Stone Spencer Family


George Selden Spencer was born in 1790 in New York.  By 1820, he was living in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana and married to Nancy Stone, daughter of Matthew Stone and Jane Duke.

Nancy Stone Spencer died in 1857 and is buried in the Spencer Cemetery in LaSalle Parish, formerly a part of Catahoula Parish.  George Selden Spencer died in 1865.  The location of his burial is unknown at this time.

The following children were born to the marriage of George Selden Spencer and Nancy Stone:

Deborah Jane, 1821-1880 (m. Eliza, 1823-1824; buried in the Spencer Cemetery in LaSalle Parish, formerly Catahoula Parish.

Rowena Sophia, 1828-1883 (m. Edward Dorsey, 1823-before 1870); burial locations are unknown at this time.

Charles, 1830-1866 (m. Mary Elizabeth Shattuck, 1835-1917); both died in California.  Location of burials is unknown at this time.

Lewis Cass, 1832-1887 (m. Priscilla Ann Elam, 1836-1922).  The location of Lewis Cass Spencer's burial is unknown at this time.

William Brainerd, 1835-1882 (m. Henrietta Elam, 1838-1888).  Judge William Brainerd Spencer is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.  No tombstone photograph is available at this time.  His date of death is listed on the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress as February 12, 1882.  The obituary below shows his date of death as April 28, 1882.

The location of Henrietta Elam Spencer's burial is unknown at this time.

Samuel Walker, 1837-1862 (m. Adeline Elam, 1840-1926).  Samuel Walker Spencer died during the Civil War at the second battle of Manassas in Virginia.  Adeline Elam Spencer is buried in the Nebo Cemetery in what is now LaSalle Parish. Arius Nye, 1843-1886 (m. Laura A. Mason, 1842-1906).  Arius Nye Spencer is buried in an unknown location in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  Laura A. Mason Spencer is buried in the Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah, Madison Parish, Louisiana.  No tombstone photographs are available at this time.
