From Our Island Heritage, Vols 2-3, 1977-78, compiled by Sophie Haley and Mickie Smith:

The Wynns arrived in Sicily Island in 1937 by way of Jena, Louisiana where they had operated a store for C. W. Wurster for many years.

Desiring to own their own business, the Wynns bought the old Higgins store, which for many years had been operated by Mrs. Higgins' daughter, Mrs. Laura Whatley.

The Wynns built up a successful grocery business which they managed jointly until their retirement in 1965.
Mr. Wynn was a charter member of the Sicily Island Rotary Club and served one term as its President.  He continued to be active in the club until his death on October 14, 1969 at the age of eighty-four.  For the two years prior to his death he served on the Town Council.  It can be said of Mr. Wynn that he was a "Good Man" and a friend to all.  The town of Sicily Island honored him once by proclaiming an "O. G. Wynn Day".  Both Mr. and Mrs. Wynn attended the Methodist Church for many years, contributing to its causes.
 O. G. and Kate Wynn had the following children:
Hazel, 1914-2003 (m. Woodie Brewer Dosher, 1916-1990)
Ota Gilbert, Jr., 1918-2012 (m. Lillian Jeanette Young, 1920-2010)
