Charles Samuel Seal was born on April 26, 1874 in Wesson, Copiah County, Mississippi.  On December 4, 1897, he married Lula Mae White, who was born on March 24, 1880.

From Our Island Heritage, Vol. 3, 1978, compiled by Sophie Haley and Mickie Smith:

They started their married life as farmers on his father's place near Wesson but soon moved on to a more lucrative business, that of working in timber.  After a few years, he had acquired his own sawmill and was living in Tylertown, Mississippi.  When his sawmill burned, he went to work for the Great Southern Lumber Company as a timber buyer.

Charles Samuel Seal's uncle, Lee W. Furr, moved to Sicily Island from Wesson and began sending messages back home about the rich farmlands around Sicily Island.  Wanting to return to the soil and to be at home with his family, Charles Samuel moved his family to Sicily Island in 1916.  It did not take long for the Seal family to realize that they should seek other means of support.  Timber was what he knew best and timber was plentiful in those days, so he began a fresh start with a log team, cutting and hauling timber.  From this he went into the cutting of Rights of Way for the many pipelines which had begun to criss-cross the country.

When the Great Depression hit the country, it also hit the Seal operations.  Charles Samuel returned once more to the farm.  He had by this time acquired property on the Cane Road near Sicily Island.  He prepared a quite comfortable home there and moved his family from the Village of Sicily Island to the farm on Cane Road.  Here, both he and Lula Mae lived out the remainder of their lives.
