John Griffin Cooper was born on January 22, 1867 to the marriage of Lawrence Martin and Emily W. Cooper.  Siblings included Joel Moore, Lawrence, Martha and Francis.

John G. Cooper was first married to Mary Eliza Parnell with whom he had the following children:

Following the death of Mary, John married Louise Delilia "Lila" Cameron with whom he had the following children:

John Griffin., Jr.
Laberta

Descendants of John Griffin Cooper, Sr. continue to live in Sicily Island today.
