The Children (and grandchildren) of Tom and Kate Smith Chisum

On March 23, 1881, Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Chisum married Catherine "Kate" Smith.  Tom, the son of Isham Russell and Mary Polly Walling Chisum, came to Sicily Island circa 1876 from Limestone County, Texas.  He was born on January 3, 1852.  Kate, born on September 24, 1859, was the daughter of James Luther Smith and Henrietta DeGlando Smith.

Kate died on April 23, 1936 and Tom died on December 4, 1934.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

To the marriage of Tom and Kate were born the following five children: 

Thomas Jefferson Chisum, Jr. was born on October 2, 1881 and died on August 17, 1882.  He is buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

Mary Eva Chisum was born on January 25, 1883.  On June 25, 1902, Eva married Dr. Charles Judson Gordon. Dr. Gordon and Eva had the following children:  

Charles Judson, Jr., 1904-1905
Eva, 1907-1952 (m. William L. Vaught)
Dorothy, 1908-1993 (m. Arthur Youmans Tillinghast, Jr.)
Frances Noel, 1917-2007 (m. Richard E. Selser)

Eva died on June 1, 1955 and Dr. Gordon died on December 4, 1942.  They are both buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

Jessie Chisum was born on February 13, 1884.  On December 26, 1900, she married John Grafton McNair who was born in Mississippi on December 26, 1873.  They had the following children:

Jack G, 1907-1987 (m. Mary U.)
Charles E, 1916-1981 (m. Wanda Peniston)
Catherine "Kitty", 1922-1988 (m. Marvin Bishop Nolen, Jr.)
Jessie Nell, 1922-2006
Dorothy "Bit", 1925-2004 (m. 1.Joseph Lyle Reed; 2.Charles C. Smith)

 
Jessie died on July 6, 1962 and John died on December 1, 1930.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

Edward Walling, Sr. "Big Walling" was born on February 27, 1886 and married Nellie Elizabeth Ballard on November 16, 1906 in the old Spencer House in Sicily Island.  Nellie, born April 8, 1888, was the daughter of Oliver Goldsmith and Margaret M. Sargent Ballard.  Big Walling and Nellie had the following two sons:

Aubrey Ballard "A.B.", 1910-2003 (m. 1.Marjorie Louise Montgomery; 2.Madlon M.)

Big Walling died on May 31, 1955 and Nellie died on April 25, 1979.  Both are buried in the Highland Park Cemetery in Sicily Island.

Emmett DeWitt, Sr. "Big Emmett" was born on December 15, 1888.  He married Laura Eveline Ballard who was a sister to Nellie Elizabeth Ballard.  Laura was born on July 28, 1881.  They had one son, Emmett DeWitt, Jr. "Little Emmett", 1919-2009 (m. Geneva B.)

Big Emmett died on December 23, 1949 and Laura died on January 12, 1977.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.
