William J. McCarty Family

William J. McCarty was born circa 1825 in Virginia.  He moved to the Sicily Island area where he met and married Sarah Ann Pierce who was born in Catahoula Parish circa 1834.  William died in 1862 and Sarah died after 1900.

The following children were born to this marriage:

  2. Mary Jane
  3. Sarah Elizabeth
  4. Jesse Eli 
1.  Robert Jefferson McCarty was born on November 1, 1852.  On November 11, 1873, he married Ophelia Lillie Roberts.  Ophelia was born in Catahoula Parish on June 30, 1857 and died circa 1865.  The location of her burial is unknown at this time.

Robert and Ophelia had the following children:

Ollie, 1880-1919 (m. Arwood Laningham, 1872-aft 1930)
Mattie, 1884
In 1886, Robert Jefferson McCarty married Mary Florence Watson who was born in 1865.  The following children were born to this marriage:
Susie Belle, 1887-1927 (m. H. L. Curry, 1885-?)
Minnie, 1888-1977 (m. Harry Skipper, 1893-1973)
Robert Leo, 1890-1962 (m. Sarah Ann "Annie" Watson, 1891-1969)
Mary Mattie, 1893-? (m. W. R. Sinclair)
Corine, 1900-1951 (m. Wesley Reece Barron, 1894-1960)
Maude, 1902-1976 (m. Raleigh M. Stigall)
John Marable, 1904-1974 (m. Clara Evelyn Kelly, 1905-1982)
Robert Jefferson McCarty died on December 22, 1907.  He is buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.  Mary Florence Watson McCarty died on April 7, 1926.  She is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, Kay, Oklahoma.  (Editor's note:  Mary's tombstone photograph is courtesy of Jennifer Bigham at FindAGrave.com)


2.  Mary Jane McCarty was born on August 9, 1853.  On January 18, 1872 she married William Daniel Dampier.  William was born on October 12, 1857.  The following children were born to this marriage:

Robert D., 1875-1939
Julia Elizabeth, 1877-1934 (m. George Stampley)
Vina May, 1880-1965 (m. Jack Barfield)
Laura M., 1882-1928 (m. Samuel Peter Baum, 1878-1957)
Burl Allen, 1883-1961
Susan C., 1886-1982 (m. Jackson James Thomason, 1880-1932)
Frederick David, 1889-1962
Mack William, 1891-1974
Lucious Nathaniel, 1893-1982
K. G., 1898-1991
Mary Jane McCarty Dampier died on March 1, 1919 and William Daniel Dampier died on October 31, 1921.  Both are buried in the Coax Baptist Church Cemetery in Baskin, Franklin, Louisiana.  (Editor's note:  tombstone photographs are courtesy of Ron Manley at FindAGrave.com)






















3.  Sarah Elizabeth McCarty was born on May 27, 1856.  On March 14, 1875 she married Christopher Columbus Guice who was born on April 15, 1856.  The following children were born to this marriage:

Christopher Columbus, Jr., 1876-1889
Henry Eli, 1879-1960 (m. Pansy Duke)
Jefferson Monroe, 1881-1930 (m. Eula Mae Chambless)
Enos Nathaniel, 1883-1929 (m. Sarah Elizabeth Armfield)
Abijah Grover, 1885-1958 (m. Artie Whiddon)
Chester Elmore, 1887-1964 (m. Ellis Elmary Attaway)
Mary Ann, 1889-1934 (m. Arthur Armfield)
Mary Katherine, 1890-? (m. Attaway)
John Fielding, 1892-1967 (m. Mary Janie Langston, sister to Ophelia Annette Langston)
Alice, 1894-1955 (m. Charles H. Ivey)
Ira Christopher, 1896-1966 (m. Ophelia Annette Langston, sister to Mary Janie Langston)
David Erastus, 1899-1979 (m. Katherine Elizabeth Dennis).
Sarah Elizabeth McCarty Guice died on February 11, 1926 and Christopher Columbus Guice died on April 14, 1923.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.


4.  Jesse Eli McCarty was born circa 1860. On January 20, 1881 he married Mary Bell Tomlinson who was born circa 1860.  The following children were born to this marriage:

William Moore, 1889-1943
Robert Jay, 1893-1956
Dora L., 1896-1987 (m. Sampson Butler, 1898-1977)

Mellie, 1901-1935 (m. Arnold Nixon Boyett, 1902-1975)
Jesse Eli McCarty died circa 1913.  Mary Bell Tomlinson McCarty died circa 1917.  The dates of death and location and burials are unknown at this time.
