Charles and Octavia Leland Duncle Descendants

Charles Duncle was born circa 1810 in Pennsylvania.  When he moved to the South, he met and married Octavia Leland.  Octavia was born circa 1810 in Mississippi.

The following children were born to the marriage of Charles and Octavia Leland Duncle:

1. William Rufus Duncle was born on December 7, 1839 in Louisiana.  He first married Martha Ann Turner on June 28, 1865.  Martha was born on September 28, 1847.  William and Martha had the following two daughters:
Susan Elizabeth "Lizzie", 1866-1879
Laura Ann Duncle Carraway, 1868-1950 (m. John W. Carraway, 1864-1931); Both are buried in the Carraway Cemetery in Extension, Louisiana.  Tombstone photographs were taken by FindAGrave member, Melissa West Reeves.

Following Martha's death, William married Martha's sister, Almeda Turner, on August 11, 1869.  Almeda was born on October 6, 1853.

William R. Duncle died on January 6, 1897 and Almeda Turner Duncle died on April 4, 1897.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.


















William and Almeda had the following children: 

1-1  Martha Ann "Mattie", 1870-1872

1-2  Ellen, 1872-1873; Buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery.


1-3  William Clinton, 1874-1885

1-4  Almeda "Meadie" was born August 23, 1877.  On March 27, 1898, she married Horace Bondurant (1874-1959).

Almeda died on October 6, 1961.  Both are buried in the New Winnsboro Cemetery in Winnsboro, Franklin, Louisiana.  Tombstone photographs were taken by FindAGrave member, Karen Klemm Pinckard.

Almeda and Horace had the following children:
Janie, 1899-1978 (m. Everard Blanton Butler, 1889-1958)
Walter, 1901-1966
Leo, 1908-1967 (m. Eleanor Stigal)
1-5  Florence was born on June 14, 1880.  On June 27, 1897, she married Cicero Jacob "Jake" Meyers at the home of Edd Duncle, uncle of the bride.  Cicero was born on October 25, 1875 in Columbia, Louisiana.  He came to Sicily Island as a young man working in timber.

After their marriage, the Meyers family settled down to make their living farming.  Cicero worked for his father-in-law at his cotton gin, saw mill and brick kiln.  After William Duncle died, Cicero continued to operate the cotton gin for many years.  As the years passed, Cicero became interested in many endeavors.  He raised both sheep and cattle, was a cotton farmer, raised seed corn, which he contracted to sell to Hastings Seed Company, and dealt in cotton pooling.  (Reference:  Our Island Heritage, Vol. 2, 1978, compiled by Sophie Haley and Mickie Smith)
Florence died on July 3, 1971 and Cicero died on January 9, 1965.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.
 Florence and Cicero had the following children:
William Herbert, 1898-1899; Buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.
Katherine Helen "Katie", 1901-1992 (m. Henry "Hal" Daniel Bruce, 1886-1933); Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

Cicero Edward, 1904-? (m. Flora Megginson, 1902-2003); Both are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
Florence Elizabeth, 1907-1997 (m.  Jacob Roddy "Rodney" Heard, 1899-1980) Both are buried in Heard Cemetery, Manifest, Catahoula, Louisiana.  Tombstone photograph was taken by FindAGrave member, Karen Klemm Pinckard.
Ethel Alaska, 1910-1971 (m. 1. Courtney Kiper; 2. Carl Rupert "C. R." Deen, 1904-1998); Both are buried in the Greenoaks Memorial Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Simon Moses, 1912-1980 (m. Doris Vernon Watson, 1915-1979); Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery.  Simon and Doris had two sons, Charles Duncle Meyers (1937-2010) and John Richard Meyers (1945-1991).
Rufus Gordon, 1915-2002 (m. Elva Ouida Valentine Smith).  Rufus is buried in the Hill Crest Cemetery in Baker, Louisiana.
John Sanford "Johnny", 1918-1977 (m. Anna M. Smith, 1921-2007).  
Johnny and Anna are both buried in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar, Texas.  Tombstone photographs were taken by FindAGrave member, LCat.  Obituary is courtesy of FindAGrave member, Ron Manley.


Laura Almeda, 1924-2011 (m. Harry Dalton Russell, 1918-1979); Both are buried in the Greenoaks Memorial Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

1-10  Henry Edward "Eddie", 1892-1897; Buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery.


1-11  William Rufus "Ruth", 1895-1983 (m. Emmitt Burton Deen, 1890-1966); Both are buried in the New Winnsboro Cemetery in Winnsboro, Franklin Parish, Louisiana.  Tombstone photograph was taken by FindAGrave member, Karen Klemm Pinckard.  It is not known why this last child and daughter was named after her father.  Following the death of her parents, Ruth was raised by Laura and John Carraway.  Laura and Ruth were half-sisters.


2. Susan Jane Duncle was born in 1842 and married Peter Martin Ussery (1883-aft 1880).  Susan died in 1880.  They had the following children:

2-3  Peter Miles, b. between 1860 and 1865, (m. Susan Whatley).  They had one child, Peter Martin, who married a Youngblood.

2-4  Charles Edward, 1871-1953 (m. Eola Parks, 1882-1957) Both are buried in the Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, Louisiana.  They had the following children:
Charles Hillary, 1898-1949 (m. Maybell Murphy, 1900-1989)
Eola Gertrude, 1900-1982 (m. William Lannie Barrett, 1899-1974)
Laura Ethel, 1902-1980 (m. 1. Dan Hammons; 2. Collie M. Waggoner, 1893-1952)
Peter Edward, 1905-1963 (m. Zelma Lee Griffin, 1905-1996)
Alvin, 1907-1907
Etta Corine, 1909-1969 (m. George Zeller, 1888-1973)
Artie Mae "Carolyn", 1911-1958 (m. Karl S. Axtater)
Lee "Roy", 1913-1999 (m. Jimmie Burnett)
Myrtle Marion, 1916-? (m. 2. Charles P. Acklen)
Aaron Ezra, 1920-2001 (m. 1. Ruth Elaine Cockerham; 2. Lois Palmer; 3. Margaret Sutton)
3. John Duncle was born circa 1848.

4. Charles Edward Duncle was born on August 10, 1852.  On December 15, 1886, he married A. Elizabeth "Betty" Moore.  Betty was born on April 4, 1860.  Following the death of Charles' brother and sister-in-law, William Rufus and Almeda Turner Duncle, Ed and Betty took in nephews John Marshall and Albert Sidney.

Ed died on November 23, 1926 and Betty died on March 10, 1942.  Both are buried in the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.
